Pensioners angry at Council Tax rises 29/03/2006

UK Pensioners are furious at the latest hike in Council Taxes. From April council tax is to rise by an average 4.5% – double the rate of inflation.

Graham Williamson of Third Way commented:This increase means that Council Tax has amost doubled since 1997, but the basic state pension has increased by only a third. The fact that the Chancellor has failed to give extra help for pensioners in his budget this year just makes an already bad situation worse. NuLab should be ashamed of the way they are treating our old folk.”
