Morrissey wins over 'racism' smear

Morrissey has accepted a public apology over claims that he was a racist and a hypocrite. The former Smiths frontman and solo artist took The Word music magazine to court after it publsihed a defamatory article in March concerning his political views. He continues a libel action against the NME for comments they made last December. Morrissey said:-

“I am obviously delighted with this victory and the clearing of my name in public, where it is loud and clear for all to hear. The NME have calculatedly tried to damage my integrity and to label me a racist in order to boost their diminishing circulation. Word magazine made the mistake of repeating those allegations.”

Morrissey is due to perform in Hyde Park on July 4 as part of a festival.
